At the heart of any community that is ready to effectively respond and recover from a disaster’s devastation is a group of well-organized neighbors who know what to expect, what to do, and how to come together to help ensure the safety of their families and community.
This web site has been designed to provide helpful information and resources for East Central residents to organize and prepare for any catastrophic event that might take place in our community. Please see ECC GETS Ready in the Resource and Tool section of the library.
Salt Lake City was recently designated by Homeland Security as one of the 62 U.S. cities at high risk for a natural or man-made disaster. Seismologists indicate that a 7.0 magnitude earthquake is high on the list of probabilities.
During a disaster, the number and scope of incidents can overwhelm conventional emergency services. According to Homeland Security, residents may be without help from the City and on their own for the first 96 hours after a catastrophic event. Federal Heights residents need to be prepared to maintain the well-being of the community until help arrives.
The single most important thing you can do RIGHT NOW to prepare your family for disaster is to sign up to receive alerts from Salt Lake City public safety personnel at www.slcalert.com. SLC Alert is an emergency notification system that allows public safety personnel to provide rapid information to SLC citizens in the event of a hazardous situation, so let’s get started.
