Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The East Central Community Council Executive Board would like to invite you to hear a presentation by Prescott Muir, Principal and Founder of Prescott Muir Architects. Prescott represents Hardage Suite Hotels in their request to Salt Lake City Corporation to rezone 346-360 South on 800 South from RMF 35 to a transit zone. This request includes the proposal to tear down three existing homes in order to build a 6 story 60 unit apartment building.
However, even though an apartment building is being shown on the proposed plans, If the rezone is approved, the land owner could sell or build anything allowed by this transit zone without further approvals.
The presentation will take place at 7:30 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday September 18th at the Salt Lake Regional Hospital board room (ground level park in the SLR garage or on 1100 East) The room in on the south side of the building near same day surgery.
In keeping with the ECC policy statements to support transit development by supporting the existing transit corridor/zone, support appropriate development in our neighborhoods in order to protect quality of home and work life, the ECC Executive Board has taken an early position opposed to this rezoning request as it is presented. PLNPCM2013.000485 346 through 360 South 800 East (2)
Having said that, we see several options that could allow a mutually positive solution to a potential development request on this corner. We have extended our desire to work in a more collaborative and creative approach (as we have now been doing with great success for more than ten years).
However, Prescott’s client wishes the proposal to be considered as written.  For this reason we have simply scheduled a presentation time to gather your continued feedback.
The ECC has until October 2nd to gather your comments, votes, ideas, questions, general input (send to east.central@live.com) at which time we will revise our position letter to include all of your input. It will be sent to the Salt Lake City Planning Staff and Planning Commission.East Central Community Coucil Input Doc (1)
The Planning Commission will hold a public meeting to hear further comments and will render a recommendation to the final decision makers, the City Council.
Initial information is posted on our web at www.eastcentralcc.org as well as on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/eastcentralcommunitycouncil.
We will be adding information to the web as it is becomes available.
All who are interested in this topic, are very welcome to attend and participate.
