As construction on the University of Utah’s new S.J. Quinney College of Law building continues, we want to inform you of upcoming activity around the construction site.

Road closure to connect new building to storm drain and sewer line:

From Friday, September 20 at 6 pm to Sunday, September 22 at 6 pm University Street will be closed between 300 and 400 South as contactors connect utilities that reach out into the road. Flaggers will be present to direct locals into the area. For residents, the best approach to University Street would be to access the area from 300 South.

We apologize for any inconvenience. A noise variance for these projects was secured through the Salt Lake County Health Department

Concrete work on a sustainable feature of the new building:

From midnight (12:00 am) to 5 am on Sunday, September 22a large concrete pour is scheduled to create a 420,000 gallon water storage tank. The storage tank will allow us to use groundwater to cool the building, which is extremely energy-efficient. This pour must take place in the cool of the night as the concrete is sensitive to daylight when it is curing.

To mitigate the impact on neighbors, the project contractor, Big-D has guaranteed that the back-up beepers on the trucks will be turned off. To avoid noise from staging, trucks will arrive at the site as needed. All trucks will approach the site from 500 South, turn north on Guardsman Way, stage on the east side of Rice-Eccles Stadium, access the building site on the south side, and exit down 400 south and return south on 1300 east.
